Wake Up to Hope

Wake Up to Hope: Devotional

By Joel Osteen

I finished this devotional on November 11, 2016. This was basically a 6-month daily devotional, at least that's how I used it. I don't think there is such a thing as too positive or too encouraging when it comes to what you think about, who you think about, how you spend your time, your relationships, and specifically your relationship with God. I truly believe how you start the day determines how the rest of your day is going to turn out, and often times this influences the people around you. So it's extremely important to wake up with the right attitude, even when you're in the thick of the battle and everything keeps piling on. In addition to Scripture, this devotional was an invaluable tool to provide encouragement and start the day off with a thankful and grateful heart. I've got highlights on every page in this book, and there are endless verses and quotes that are incredibly inspiring, and particularly moving. Below are several of my favorites. "Just like a magnet, you draw in what you continually think about."

"The promise will be fulfilled through faith and patience. Waiting doesn't mean to do nothing; it means get prepared."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"When you do the right thing no matter what is happening, God sees it and rewards it."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Part of trusting God means trusting Him when things don't make sense, because we know that His plan is always for good."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Don't allow your circumstances to steal your peace and joy."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Always remember, you have been made in the image of Almighty God. God did not make any mistakes."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"God needs you. He needs your gifts, your smile, your love, your passion."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"God doesn't force us to let go of wrong relationships. He has given us our own free will. But when God asks you to give something up, He is never trying to take something away. He is trying to get something better to you. As you obey Him, you grow and mature, which opens the door for more of His blessings and favor... Trust God to bring the right people and connections across your path. Let go of wrong relationships and move forward in the blessing He has prepared for you!"
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"God rewards the people who seek after Him."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"God is directing you... He's aligning the right opportunities for you and causing the right people to come along your path to help you get ahead. He's constantly working behind the scenes on your behalf. But you have to do your part to keep your heart in the right place by following His Word."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Whenever you pray, invite the Lord to search your heart. Choose to forgive anyone who has hurt you."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Sometimes, in order to move forward into the blessing God has for you, you have to be willing to let go of the old. The things that are behind you are not nearly as important as what is out in front of you."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Your soul is where you may have brokenness from the past or hurts and disappointments, but when God restores your soul, He brings His healing power to those broken places. He makes you whole again. And when God restores you, He makes you better off than you were before."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"You have to show kindness, grace, and mercy. It isn't always easy; in fact, it's almost never easy. It takes a lot of humility to treat someone with respect who is disrespecting you. But do you know what happens when you walk in humility? God gives you His grace. He empowers you to walk in His goodness."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Change your mind today by changing your words."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Remember, the enemy always fights the hardest when he knows God has something great in store for you. The darkest battle, the darkest storm, will always give way to the brightest sunrise. The Scripture says to not grow weary or become discouraged for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in. It may be hard right now, but remind yourself that you have the power of God inside you to do what you need to do."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"God sees your effort. It's one thing to do the right thing and make good decisions when everything is going your way. That's great. God honors that. When times are tough and nothing is going your way, when you're hurting, when you should be on the sidelines nursing your would, instead your still in the game — that gets God's attention in a new way."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"You may have a reason to feel sorry for yourself, but you don't have a right. God promised He will give you beauty for those ashes."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"If you need to change your actions today, change what you are imitating by simply changing your focus. The more you focus on the Word, the more you will imitate God. And when you do things God's way, you will get God's results — peace, joy, and blessing all the days of your life!"
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Remember, as a believer in Jesus, the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives on the inside of you."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"When you get up in the morning, no matter how you feel, no matter what things look like, instead of using your words to describe your situation, use your words to change your situation."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Our words have tremendous power and are similar to seeds. By speaking them aloud, they are planted in our subconscious minds, take root, grow, and produce fruit of the same kind. Whether we speak positive or negative words, we will reap exactly what we sow. That's why we need to be extremely careful about what we think and say."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Living in peace and unity doesn't mean you have to agree with everyone around you all the time. It means you look for common ground. It means you reach out to others; you pray for them and help meet their needs. When we put the needs of others first, God will make sure our own needs are abundantly supplied."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"When we learn to be content whatever the circumstances, it takes away the power of the enemy. It takes away his ability to frustrate us. Not only that, but by our actions, we are showing our faith in God. When you choose to trust His timing, you can live in peace, you can live in joy, and you can rest in Him, knowing that He has good things in store for your future."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Nothing you have been through is ever wasted. Your past experiences, good and bad, have deposited something on the inside of you. Those challenges have sharpened you to help make you who you are today. When the enemy brings hardships into your life, God has a way of taking that experience and turning it around for your advantage."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"We have to make sure that what we allow into our minds is pleasing to the Lord, because what we allow into our minds will eventually affect our hearts."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Delivering faith is when God instantly turns your situation around. When that happens, it's great. But it takes a greater faith and a deeper walk with God to have sustaining faith. Sustaining faith is what gets you through those dark valleys and storms of the soul when you don't know where to go or what to do... but because of your faith in God, you do. Faith tells you the best is yet to come."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Many people today don't realize that the reason they're not happy, the reason they're not enjoying life is simply because they've trained their minds in the wrong direction. They've programmed their minds to worry. They've programmed their minds to complain. They've programmed their minds to see the negative. But just as we can train our minds to focus on the negative, we can also reprogram our minds to focus on the positive. It all depends on what we meditate on. When we meditate on the Word of God, we reprogram our minds. When we meditate on God's goodness, we are developing a right mindset. When we choose to be grateful and focus on what's right rather than what's wrong, we are choosing a positive attitude. This doesn't happen automatically; you have to discipline yourself to focus on the right things. You have to make a conscious effort to spend time in the Word of God every single day until a habit is formed."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"God is love. We are never more like God than when we are walking in love — when we are being patient and kind; when we are extending grace and mercy and forgiving others the way Christ has forgiven us. When you imitate God, when you do things His way, you get His results! And God's ways always lead to life, freedom, and blessing. The more you imitate your Heavenly Father by walking in love, the more you will see Him moving in your life."
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"Throughout your life, God is continually shaping and molding you. The key to future success is to not be discouraged about your past or present while you are in the process of being “completed.”"
― Joel Osteen - Wake Up to Hope: Devotional
"You may not be everything you want to be, but thank God that you're not what you used to be."
